Chapter 4.

Previously...

-“Shut up brat! If this sow doesn’t remember me or what she did, then I’ll just stab her until she does!” The he/she then proceeded to take out what looked like a chain saw and charged straight towards me. Dodging, he kept swinging it in my direction so I steered well away from my master.

Shit. I can’t get hit with that thing or it might very well kill me. What exactly am I supposed to do? This is a serious killing aura I’m reading off him, and I have absolutely zero battle experience. Would it be ironic if I prayed to god for my life right now?-

Continued...

Dodging attacks that came continuously, Sebastian eventually came to help. He took over the fight with Grell, while I went back to Ciels’ side. There was still a presence that was unaccounted for. Even though Grell was slightly hesitant to fight Sebastian with as much rage as he came at me with, Sebastian didn’t let the cross dressers’ attention turn back to me. After I had calmed down and steadied my breathing, I felt ready for combat, but a sudden attack from another rooftop stopped the fighting between Sebastian and Grell.

“Grell Sutcliff, what have I told you about that death scythe? It’s unseemly for a reaper of our calibre to be wielding such an atrocity. I believe I’ve also talked to you about picking fights with the demons.” The guy who said this then sighed and waited for a reply from the red-head, all the while glaring at Sebastian. This guy was another reaper but with black, slicked back hair and dressed in a proper suit. He was using what looked like extended hedge trimmers. I was told about him, I believe his name was William T. Spears.

“Oh but Willy! I have a reason for attacking them! Look! It’s that bitch from 120 years ago!” He then pointed towards me, in turn causing the newly arrived Shinigami to look in my general direction. The reaction given was small but still noticeable. His eyes widened in shock for a split second before returning to normal. I protectively yet discretely moved in front of Ciel, unsure of how this was going to end up. William then abruptly shot his death scythe in my direction heading straight towards me. If I were to dodge it, it would go right through Ciel who would then die almost instantly with his fragile human body. Before the sharp edges had the chance to penetrate my skin and rip my flesh to pieces, I caught it with one gloved hand, causing a few cuts on the inside of my palm and blood to slowly drip from the wound. My strength surprising me, and momentarily shocking the owner of the attack, I took the opportunity to pull on the weapon and tear it from the proprietor’s hands. It then proceeded to land on the floor next to me, and as I glanced to Ciel to ensure he hadn’t been harmed, I realised his face was stoic and unfazed. I was impressed to say the least, he was 13 after all. He spared a glance to my hand but that was about it.

“Before anyone decides to make any other stupid moves, I’d like a few questions answered.” I then glanced to Sebastian to silently ask whether I’m allowed to know the answer to my unspoken questions, to which he nodded. That meant that whatever it was I did to these guys wasn’t the reason as to why I lost my memories. Although I probably could have worked that out when they said something about 120 years ago. Continuing, “I want to know why you guys are out to kill me. You should know that I’ve had my memories taken, which by the way,” I glanced to Grell, “cannot be recovered no matter how many times you stab me. It’s not a simple case of amnesia; my memories were taken full stop. So I’d like to know what I did, to at least justify your attempts of murder.”

“Hmm, I find that acceptable. Very well. I shall indulge you.” Started William, adjusting his glasses with his fore finger. He didn’t seem to dare move from his spot on the roof, especially with the stare I was shooting him, not wanting him to come back for his weapon. Sebastian stayed where he was, thus keeping Grell in place too. “Almost 120 years ago now, a certain somebody managed to find their way into the Grim Reaper realm and broke into the Library. This person took down all of the security reapers and all of the others who were in that day, who came to try and drive you out. They were all defeated rather effortlessly. This person then locked themselves in the Library and helped themselves to the precious archives within. That day is known as our most shameful and no one speaks of it but they’ve never forgotten it either. Now, can you guess who this person was?” He started scowling at me. I deadpanned.

“…Me?” That was more than obvious, although it didn’t seem like the right moment for sarcasm that’s for sure. “You’re mad about something that happened 120 years ago? I’d apologise, but I can’t say sorry due to the fact that I have no knowledge of it what so ever. Anyhow, I can only assume I had a good reason to do so and it’s not my fault you’re too weak to defend something that’s important to you.” This seemed to rile him up, as he dove forward toward me with a killing intent. With Ciel still behind me, I simply lifted my leg as he came close enough for contact, in actuality the whole scene may have lasted about 2 seconds because it was so fast, but I kicked him hard in the abdomen and sent him flying into the left most wall of the alley. Grell quickly ran to William to ensure he was alright, while I stood still, silently dazed. I stared at the cracks in the wall and watched the few broken pieces of brick fall to the ground, and I simply looked at the Reaper I had kicked slowly rise from the ground in pain, coughing. How did I do that? I didn’t even prepare myself, yet my body moved on its’ own, as if it knew what to do without my own contemplation. A strange feeling indeed.

Without any other words from the Shinigami pair, apart from the whispered conversation they had to themselves, the red one pranced over and took back the others’ weapon. He didn’t make any moves to attack and after that, they left in silence. I, however, was still in slight shock.

Sebastian returned to Ciels’ side, although he had apparently gotten himself into trouble with the young master.

“What do you think you were doing? I could have been killed.” Ciel scowled at Sebastian, who in turn only smiled back as he responded.

“I don’t think _____ would have let that happen. It is, after all, her job to protect you. When William attacked her, she could have dodged the attack easily as she did Grells’ attacks, however she realised that if she did, you would have been attacked instead. She analysed the consequences of her actions before she chose to stand her ground in order to protect you, My Lord.” Sebastian was very accurate in his answer, which wasn’t so surprising. He could apparently read everyone like a book, in most cases anyway. I simply smiled toward Ciel.

“Very well, but I expect a full explanation on what that fight was about while I write a report to the Queen. This isn’t the first time I’ve had to say that we dealt with the culprit accordingly because of those damned Reapers. _____, you did a good job tonight and I’m guessing you’d also like to know more about your past. I think it’s about time Sebastian shed some light on the situation.” Ciel stated before turning back the way we came, heading back to the house. I looked to Sebastian, and then followed after Ciel.

“Yes Master,” Sebastian and I said simultaneously. Although it’s going to take some time to get used to saying those two words, it felt pretty good when I said them at that moment in time.

-----------------------------------------Next Day-----------------------------------------

When morning came around, I had finished taking in all of the information I had learned the night before. In retrospect, it wasn’t exactly a lot, I just had a lot of time to think it all over due to the fact that I no longer need sleep. My hand was also bandaged up, Sebastian told me that it would take about a day or two to heal because it was inflicted by a death scythe.

It was discovered that Sebastian didn’t know as much as we thought, though he was able to fill in a few blanks about the Library and the archives. He explained what the Library was and what archives were, because I had absolutely no clue. I found out that the library archives consisted of books that foretold who was to die, deaths of the past, the circumstances of their death and so on. I also learnt more about the Shinigami too.

I waited until Ciel was up and ready in the dining hall waiting for breakfast before I went to stand by his side. After Sebastian came in and explained/served breakfast, Ciel started to speak.

“Today we’ll be going into town again, we need to go back to last night’s crime scene and explain a few things to Scotland Yard.” Both of us demons nodded in understanding, and I prepared the carriage as Sebastian served Ciel his breakfast.

As we reached the scene of the crime, the carriage driver smoothly stopped the horse-drawn vehicle and waited patiently for when we were to return. The officers of Scotland Yard, which were easy to distinguish amongst the crowd of onlookers because of their identifiable uniform, spotted the Earl Phantomhive walking towards them with his two servants. Well, they assumed we were servants, Sebastian was his contracted demon and I was here under certain circumstances which couldn’t be explained to the likes of humans. I’ve realised that ever since I’ve been here I’ve begun to think less and less of humans, which is strange because I was living as one a little less than a week ago.

“What are you doing here Guard Dog?” Asked Police Commisioner Lord Randall, standing firm and tall against Ciel, who he obviously felt was some kind of enemy.

“I thought it best to tell you that this case, which was given to me to investigate by the Queen herself, has been resolved.” Ciel retorted, giving the authoritative man a smirk. Said man only scowled in response, shooing off Officer Abberline who tried to interject.

“Am I right in saying that this case is to not be pursued any longer by the Metropolitan Police service of London?” Randall confirmed with a scowl still present on his features while addressing my 13-year-old master.

“Correct. Now, I believe you have something to give to me.” Stated Ciel, it was far more of an order than a question. Though, that doesn’t surprise me as that’s what he’s more used to. Without saying anything to reply, Randall reached a gloved hand into his coats’ inner pocket to retrieve a white envelope with the Queens insignia on the red wax, sealing the envelope together. This appeared to be payment.

“I see you’ve gained a new servant to follow you around.” Randall observed as he handed over the envelope, obviously referring to me.

“I don’t see why that’s any of your business, however she’s been hired to be my bodyguard. That is all.” Ciel answered; placing the envelope he’d received into his coats’ inner pocket and then began to walk away. “Thank you for your co-operation officers.” Were his last words to them. As we left, it was apparent that Sir Randall found the whole scenario that just took place more than a little displeasing as he complained to the accompanying officer about how someone so young could be so disrespectful.

-----------------------------------------Meanwhile-----------------------------------------

“Claude, who is that woman with Ciel and Sebastian? And why is she dressed like a man?” Asked a boy aged roughly 14-years-old. He had blonde hair with crystalline blue eyes. This boy and his servant were watching the Phantomhive boy from afar, down the town road.

“She is a demon, My Lord. A special one that was banished from this world 18 years ago. It seems as though she has come back and Sebastian was most likely told to keep an eye on her from the higher ups of the demon world, Your Majesty.” His servant replied. This demon had dark hair and amber eyes, he was also wearing glasses. He was currently glowering at said male demon; Sebastian. He was jealous of his master, and now he had authority over one of the most high ranking and notorious demons in this world. While this ‘Claude’ was in thought, his ‘Majesty’ was also thinking, before he made a demand that his contracted demon wouldn’t be able to refuse.

“I want her.”
